2025: Start the Year Strong by Showing Up, Taking Action, and Being Consistent
Not Another Bragging Post. Even If All You Did This Year Was Get Through It: That’s Enough
As the year comes to a close, the flood of social media highlight reels with people's achievements can feel overwhelming. Admitted, I've shared a few of mine as well: I achieved my goal of running 2,024+ kms in 2024 (well over 2,500 now actually). But what those posts don’t share is that there were many ups and downs along the way, and I've struggled a lot despite the medals and achievements. Note to self: Fatigue is proof of hard work. But don’t forget to rest and take a break.
So if all you did this year was get through it, that’s enough. No humble bragging required. This isn’t another “be your authentic self” post or a pitch for the latest success-in-a-can system. Instead, I want to share a few things that have worked for me—things you can use however they fit into your life. It's not all a pretty story - contrary to most social media posts you see, my books and courses are mostly celebrations of what did not work. “Living by Experience” means allowing you to use these stories to your advantage as you carve out your own journey.
The Three Keys to Success
Success doesn’t come from hacks; it comes from habits. Here are three pillars to help you achieve any goal, whether it’s running a marathon, writing a book, finding a partner, going on an around-the-world trip, you name it.
1. Showing Up
Being present is half the battle. Missing events, canceling plans, or being chronically late sends a message—to yourself and others—that you’re not fully committed. Show up for your goals and for your life.
2. Taking Action
You can’t think your way out of fear; you have to act your way out of it. Doing something new may be scary, but it’s essential. Start small if you must, but start.
3. Being Consistent
Big results require momentum. Consistency bridges the gap between where you are and where you want to be. If something’s not working, don’t scrap everything; pivot slightly and keep learning. Remember: persistence leads to breakthroughs.
My Wish for You in the New Year
This year, keep going. Believe in your ability to grow, to learn, and to love the life you’re building. It’s not about having a perfect plan but about taking steps forward, no matter how small. Showing up—even fractionally—is brave, strong, and inspiring.
Every moment you push forward, you’re an inspiration. Never doubt your strength or the courage it takes to keep moving forward. This is your journey, and owning it—messy, beautiful, and uniquely yours—is part of the magic.
Action Over Intention
Treat life with urgency: Life is happening now. Stop waiting for the “right” moment because the stars will never align perfectly. Define what you really need and distinguish it from what you merely want. Then, go after what truly matters to you with urgency and clarity. Show up, take action, and be consistent.
Vision boards and goal-setting are fun, but they’re passive until paired with action. Success demands more than good intentions; it requires doing something. If that sounds intimidating, the good news is: You can start now.
“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”
Heraclitus once said, “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.” Your life is ever-changing. Take steps today to align it with the vision you have for your “one day”, and make today “day one”.

A Final Thought
I’ll leave you with a poem by Fleur Adcock:
There are worse things than having behaved foolishly in public.
There are worse things than these miniature betrayals,
committed or endured or suspected; there are worse things
than not being able to sleep for thinking about them.
It is 5am. All the worse things come stalking in.
Remember, life is too short to waste on what doesn’t make you ridiculously happy. Be kinder to yourself. To create change, you must be willing to embrace it.
Happy New Year. Your time is now. You’ve got this.
