When Good Things Come to an End (And Why That’s Okay)
The Only Constant in Travel Hacking? Change. When Great Perks Disappear, Smart Travellers Adapt—Here’s How.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned—whether in travel, business, or life—it’s that nothing lasts forever. Perks disappear, opportunities evolve, and sometimes, we have to make tough choices to move forward.
Success is related to the speed making a new decision, often to do something a little bit different.
It’s usually not about a massive overhaul or reinventing yourself. The idea is to add something new, making a slight tweak to what you were already doing. Endings aren’t necessarily bad. If you lean into it and embrace the unknown, these events can push us toward something even better.
To illustrate, here’s two endings you may have recently noticed:
One of my favourite travel hacks— which got me Las Vegas Diamond status for years—was discontinued in January 2025. For many years, this benefit provided waived resort fees, priority check-ins, and free stays at luxury hotels. It was one of those perks that felt too good to be true. And as it turns out, it was. Now, it’s gone.1
I recently ended my texting community to focus more on this blog. For a long time, I enjoyed the direct connection with my readers, but I realized that to create better, more valuable content, I needed to shift my focus. Instead of stretching myself thin, I decided to double down on the things that have the biggest impact.
And that’s the point of this post: when something ends, it’s an opportunity to evolve.
The Natural Cycle of Change
We often resist change because it forces us out of our comfort zones. But in reality, everything moves in cycles. The best opportunities don’t last forever, but new ones always emerge. This changes the focus away from missing opportunities, to about making a decision in favour of your preferences sooner.
Think about how travel has changed over the years:
Airline mistake fares used to be far more common. Now, they’re rare—but new hacks, like points transfers and companion passes, have taken their place.
Credit card sign-up bonuses fluctuate. The best time to grab one is before it disappears.
Hotel loyalty programs change their terms, but savvy travellers learn new ways to maximize them.
The key is not to dwell on what’s lost but to take action on what’s available right now.
Why Taking Action Matters
Too many people hesitate. They wait for the "perfect moment" to book a trip, start a business, or take advantage of a deal—only to find out later that the opportunity is gone. The stars never align, the key is just to get started with what you have today. I tend to prefer small pivots over major overhauls. It limits the risk, and keeps the door open for new opportunities while leveraging everything you were already doing (instead of starting from scratch).
The truth is, most great perks are limited-time opportunities. They come and go. But those who are willing to act—whether it’s jumping on a travel deal, securing elite status, or making a strategic career move—are the ones who continue to benefit. Success is a habit.
That’s why I’ve always focused on staying ahead of the curve—experimenting, testing, and adapting to the latest opportunities. And that’s exactly what I aim to share on this Living by Experience blog. Thank you for reading.

The good news is that it got replaced with a similar benefit, at another Las Vegas property I’ve been wanting to try for years, but considered out of my budget. Not anymore, it sounds like.
